A HERO GETS A NEW WELLINGTON HOME
Army veteran Steven Holloway will likely spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair after a sniper’s bullet severed his spinal cord while he was serving in Iraq. He now lives in a townhouse in Royal Palm Beach with his wife and three children, but the home is not fully wheelchair accessible. An organization called Homes for Our Troops is about to change that.

Jack Van Dell has spent 50 of his 60 years in the jewelry business, from starting out helping his father in the family store north of Boston at age 10 to tending customers in the western communities for the past 27 years at Van Dell Jewelers. That half-century of jewelry experience makes him the perfect fourth nominee for Wellington The Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

ACS RELAY FOR LIFE RETURNS MAY 22
This year, the local chapter of the American Cancer Society will host an overnight Relay for Life on May 22-23 at Wellington’s Village Park on Pierson Road. During the event, participants will celebrate life and honor those who lost the battle.

GAY POLO TOURNEY IN WELLINGTON APRIL 3
The traditional sport of polo will take on a new field of players April 3 when the Gay Polo League — the only polo organization of its kind — will host the first International Gay Polo Tournament at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington.

STUDENTS RAISING CASH FOR ST. BALDRICK’S
Last year, Palm Beach Central High School raised the most money of any high school in the nation for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity that funds childhood cancer research. On March 25, Team Bronco is at it again — aiming to set yet another record.
